 What is an auxiliary input adapter and why do i need one? An auxiliary adapter is an audio device that connects directly to the "CD Changer" port on the back of the factory radio and allows audio playback of any device. The FRDN-AUX Auxiliary input adapter connects to the CD Changer port of select 1998-05 Ford/Lincoln/Nissan/Mazda/Mercury vehicles to convert it into an audio input. With this adapter installed you can connect any audio device [ iPod™, DVD, Satellite Radio, Walkman, X-BOX, Playstation, etc] to the factory radio without using an FM Modulator. This plug-n-play solution surpasses FM modulation which is the current method of introducing audio in these systems. The FRDN-AUX is compatible with all vehicles listed in our "Order Options" drop-down list above where the radio has CD Changer controls [CD Changer controller headunits will have preset markings of "COMP" and "SHUFFLE" ] and is not pre-wired for the changer ---if your vehicle is pre-wired [see our FRDW-AUX ]
Compatibility & Notes: [Not all Ford radios are compatible with the FRDN-AUX. The following requirements must be met for this part to work]
1. Compatible with the select 1998-05 vehicles listed in the pull-down menu above.
2. All listed vehicle must have this 20-PIN Connector on the back of the radio. Factory CD Changer (if present) must be disconnected and will no longer function.
3. Some SINGLE CD Radios found in 2003-05 Fords are NOT CD Changer capable and therefore NOT COMPATIBLE with the FRDN-AUX. For verification please insert a CD into the radio then press the "CD" button twice, if the message "NO CDDJ" "NO DJ" appears, the radio has CD Changer controls and IS compatible.
 4. 2003-05 in-dash 6-CD Changer built-into the radio are NOT compatible.. See the FRDN-AUX100
5. Not Compatible with Ford Navigation Radios or Radios with "SAT" or "CD/AUX" button on the face. [ See the FRD03-AUX/S or FRDN-AUX100]
6. Factory external "CD Changer" if present will need to be disconnected -- [ Purchase the PXFD98 to retain factory changer ]
